Fitts Park Community Garden
more ▼ less ▲On July 13, 2022 the resolution to name the new community garden across from Fitts Park at 3065 South 400 East was signed by the City Council—the Fitts Park Community Garden.The City wishes to thank to the many who worked to make this garden possible, our partners from Wasatch Community Gardens, and several community volunteers and current gardeners! May the crops be abundant, new friendships cultivated, and the gardens grow more than just produce!For this season, all garden plots are being leased this season by 30+ community members. Granite Library Branch
New SLCO Library Open
more ▼ less ▲The Salt Lake County Granite Branch located at 3331 South 500 East is now open.
County and City officials gathered of Friday, July 15 for a grand opening and ribbon cutting event. The new community space pays homage to the former Granite High that previously occupied the corner.
Amenities Include: Large Create Space, with virtual reality technology, a Create AV recording studio, 3D printing, and design tools. Create Kitchen for classes and events focused on culinary literacy, nutrition, and community food traditions.

In addition, for July's Holidays and fireworks, fire safety is of high importance. Here is the current fireworks restriction map and discharge dates:
2022 FIREWORKS DISCHARGE DATES
Fireworks can be legally discharged between the
hours of 11 am & 11 pm except as noted:
July 2 – July 5 (July 4 hours extended to midnight)
July 22 – July 25 (July 24 hours extended to midnight)It is illegal to ignite any firework in any area of the city west
of 900 West. It is illegal to ignite any firework within 20 feet of
any residence, dwelling, or other structure. It is illegal to ignite
any firework on property owned by South Salt Lake. It is illegal to
ignite any firework within 200 feet of waterways, trails, canyons,
washes, ravines, or similar areas. Additionally, we require the
City’s open burning rules and regulations to be followed. Except
for approved designated recreational fires, open burning is not allowed
within the City limits of South Salt Lake. -

- The Animal Shelter is open weekdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Masks need to be worn for people not fully vaccinated.
- Accepting donations: food, litter, blankets, or look at our Amazon wishlist.

and has determined that fireworks, explosive devices, and open flames create a safety
hazard to the community due to the current existing moisture content of vegetation.
We ask that you consider the weather and “Skip another Year” on fireworks discharge
and follow the guidelines listed below.Discharge Dates:
Between the hours of 11 am and 11 pm except as noted:
July 2 – July 5 (July 4th hours extended to midnight)
July 22 – 25 (July 24th extended to midnight)
December 31 (11 am – 1 am January 1)
Chinese New Year’s Eve (11 am – 1 am the following day)
