Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement is a division of the Neighborhoods Department and works to promote and protect the overall health, safety and welfare of our residents and businesses. We do this by enforcing city codes, which are designed to assist in maintaining the property values of the City. The goal is to preserve residential and commercial areas against hazardous and deteriorating conditions and deter crime.
What We Do
We address issues and complaints in regard to property maintenance, housing, health/safety, and graffiti violations. Our officers and support staff are trained to assure compliance to City Municipal Codes and adopted County Health Regulations. We put an emphasis on completing our work in a timely, responsible, fair and impartial manner.

Code Enforcement is here to help keep the city safe, clean, and beautiful. You can help us by reporting problem properties and abandoned or questionable vehicles and maintaining your property's landscaping. If you have any complaints or concerns regarding any issue of an ordinance nature, please call a SSL Code Enforcement Office or call the Department of Neighborhoods at 801-464-6757. Make sure to leave your name, phone number and address, as well as the reason for your call.
Code Enforcement works with the South Salt Lake Police Department to prevent, report, and remove graffiti from residential and municipal buildings. To report graffiti, call the Police Department Dispatch at 801-840-4000.
Residents are responsible for the solid waste on their property. It is a public nuisance and a violation for any owner or occupant to allow the accumulation, abandonment or storage of trash, junk and debris on private or public property. This includes areas at fences, wall bases, grassy and planted areas, borders, embankments, sidewalks, strips, gutters, street and alleys. If you catch someone illegally dumping solid waste on your property, contact the SSLPD Dispatch at 801-840-4000 or text 274-637 (CRIMES) with keyword SSLPD.
SSL offers roll-off dumpsters for a $50 rental fee. Residents may also use the Transfer Station (Residential Dump) free of charge from 7 am to 11 am on the first and third Saturdays of each month on (you must first obtain a Transfer Station card from City Hall). Visit the Waste Collection page for details.
Property owners and businesses are required to keep noxious weeds under control to prevent their spread and damage. You can call us to report any residential area that is non-compliant.
Puncturevine (a/k/a "goathead") is a common noxious weed that is know for getting stuck in shows, causing injury to pets by poking their paws, and popping bicycle tires. Learn more about puncturevine and how to be a Goatbuster.
