Traffic Citations and Traffic School
If you have been cited for a non-mandatory violation and there was not an accident involved, and you would like to attend traffic school to prevent points from being added to your driving record, you must appear at the SSL Justice Court (clerk's window) to determine if you qualify.
Upon completing traffic school, you must send the certificate of completion to the Justice Court located at:
220 E Morris Avenue
South Salt Lake, UT 84115
Email Justice Court for filing.
Qualifying
To qualify for traffic school you must:
- Not have any other citations on your record within the last year
- Not have a CDL
If you qualify for traffic school, you will be required to pay:
- The regular fine amount
- A $25 plea in abeyance fee
- A $50 traffic school fee
Location
If you live in Salt Lake County you will attend traffic school in-person at the South Salt Lake Justice Court (220 East Morris Ave, South Salt Lake, UT 84115). If you live outside of the county or have a language barrier, you may be given permission to take an online class instead.
Schedule
Traffic school takes place the third Saturday of every month. You will have 60 days to complete traffic school following the acceptance of your Plea of Abeyance.
Signing Up
When signing up for traffic school you must provide one of the following:
- A valid Utah driver's license
- A certified copy of your driving record from the state where your license was issued with your picture identification.

Upon completing traffic school, you must email the certificate of completion to the Justice Court or by mailing the certificate to:

The Utah Courts’ Self-Help Center provides assistance to those who do not have legal counsel. You can reach them at 888-683-0009 or visit the Utah Courts website.
- Can you help with eviction?

Residents threatened with an eviction in Salt Lake County can dial 801-359-2444 or 801-359-4142. In addition, homeless families taking the steps to stabilize their situation and need help with rehousing can also call for assistance.
- Does the Court provide an interpreter?

Yes. If you need an interpreter you must contact the court at 801-483-6072 to make that request.
- Does the Justice Court handle divorce?

No. Divorce cases must be filed in the District Court in the county where the residency requirement is met.
