Waste Disposal and Recycling
Waste Disposal and Recycling works with our partners to guarantee the timely and efficient removal of solid waste from the residences of South Salt Lake. We contract with Ace Disposal to provide weekly garbage and recycling collection for residential dwellings (qualifying single-family units and duplexes only). Pickup times vary by workload. If you experience problems with your pickup, call Ace Disposal's Customer Service line at 801-363-9995.
Collection Dates
Click here to view the Ace Disposal interacitve map of collection dates by city. Type in your address to find your exact collection date. Trash and recycling cans should be placed at least 3 feet away from any object (such as other cans, mailboxes, poles, and vehicles) and no more than 2 feet from the curb, with the arrow on the lid pointing towards the street. Please have your containers out by 7 am. If you need your can to be repaired, call 801-483-6074. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own containers.
Annual Collection Programs
Glass Recycling
The City contracts with Momentum Recycling to provide curbside glass recycling collection for a monthly fee of $8.50, applied to your utility bill (there is a one-time activation fee of $25). Register on their website or call 801-355-0334. Momentum will deliver a bin to your home and collect your glass recycling each month. Check with Momentum on your monthly collection date.
You may also drop off your glass recycling for free at the large blue glass recycling container at SSL City Hall on Oakland Ave.
Bulk Disposal
- Roll-off Dumpsters - Residents may rent a roll-off container to dispose of yard refuse and debris, including tree limbs, leaves, shrubbery and grass trimmings, as well as items such as used carpet, appliances, mattresses, etc. Please read the agreement for limitations. Reservations are not accepted by phone and are made on a first-come, first-served basis on our website. Containers book quickly; it's best to book in advance and have alternative dates available if your first request is booked. Deliveries are made on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Limit to one dumpster per week. Rent dumpster here. Not able to rent online? Call us at 801-483-6074 and we can help walk you through the online process.
- Transfer Station (Residential Dump) - City residents can use the transfer station located at 502 West 3300 South, from 7 am to 11 am, on the first and third Saturdays of each month. To use the facility, residents will need to obtain a free Transfer Station card from City Hall. Please call us at 801-483-6074 and we will mail one to you.
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous Waste Materials such as latex- or oil-based paints, fuel oils, motor oils, etc. are unacceptable materials for disposal in any curbside pickup. You can dispose of these types of materials at the Salt Lake County Landfill located at 6030 West 1300 South. Hours of operation: Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm. - What happens if pickup day comes on a holiday?

If your regularly scheduled pick-up day falls on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day, service will be delayed one day starting with the holiday.
