Community Court

The Community Court Program is administered through the South Salt Lake Justice Court and is designed to help unsheltered individuals navigate the court system and reduce future law enforcement interactions through providing connections to treatment, medical care, stable housing, and long-term support systems for lasting positive change. The goal is to provide individuals with additional support and resources that can reduce recidivism and increase their chances of success while working towards stability. It was created in 2024 through a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.

Participation

Participants in the Community Court Program are selected based on the certain eligibility factors, and dates typically take place in the mornings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Exact dates and time are subject to change.

Thanks to our partnership with The Road Home, defendants may appear in person or via Webex from the Pamela Atkinson Resource Center (PARC). Individuals do not need to be formally enrolled in the program to resolve their cases or meet with service providers during these sessions.  Homeless Resource Officers (HROs) are on-site at PARC on the first and fourth Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 AM to assist shelter guests with their court appearances.
